Students in all TSC schools are participating in the Great ShakeOut, a worldwide earthquake drill. The drill is designed for people at home, work and school to practice how to "Drop, Cover and Hold On."
When the principal at Mayflower Mill Elementary School made the announcement, students in Leah Persin's classroom put down their books and quickly took cover.
"We went under our table and put our hands over our heads," says first-grade student Jayna Azor. "If you are standing during an earthquake the shaking earth can knock you down. It's important to practice so you know what to do so you don't get hurt during the real thing."
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security says Indiana is exposed to a serious threat of earthquakes along the New Madrid Seismic Zone, near Evansville and the Wabash Valley Seismic Zone, which includes parts of southwestern Indiana.
