Second graders enjoyed our fall field trip to the Lafayette Fire Prevention Show in October at Sunnyside Intermediate School. The Lafayette Fire Department put on a live action show with fun songs for students to sing along with which included fire safety information. A few favorite songs were "Stop, Drop and Roll" to remind us what to do if we were to catch on fire and "Call 911" which included reasons why this number might be dialed during a fire emergency. There were also trivia questions and scenarios allowing students to think about the best choice to make regarding fire safety. During the show we followed a group of students (actors) who learned rules and procedures to stay safe if a fire were to occur. When one of the students decided to make a fire on their own for fun we learned how the fire department responds and the consequences that can result in starting a fire. Students loved the upbeat, engaging fire prevention show and learned ways to stay safe at home and in the community!
