Meet Miss Sturgis! (Top Left)
My name is Sam Sturgis. I'm from Rome City, IN which is about 45 minutes north of Fort Wayne. I graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology in December 2021. I believe that mistakes are great opportunities to learn. That's why I allow students to make corrections on assignments and quizzes. Corrections help us correct our thinking and grow as learners.
Meet Mrs. Funkhouser! (Top Right)
Hello! I’m Rebecca Funkhouser, and I’m thrilled to be here at Mayflower this year! My husband is starting his PhD at Purdue this fall, so I am brand new to Lafayette and am looking forward to getting to know the area. I grew up in and did my training in Southern California, then lived and taught kindergarten for several years in Washington and Wisconsin. I’m thrilled to be joining the first grade team this year - it’s going to be a blast! I’m passionate about helping students be successful by developing both academic and personal skills. It’s going to be a great year of learning together, trying new things, and developing friendships. I can’t wait!
Meet Mrs. Webb! (Bottom Left)
My name is Chelsea Webb. I was born in Louisiana then moved to Missouri when I was 2. I then moved to West Lafayette my sophomore year of high school. I went to high school at Harrison and graduated from Marian University with a bachelors in elementary education and a masters in special education. Last year I taught kindergarten in Indianapolis, so this will be my second year teaching and first year in first grade. A fun fact about me is that I ran track all four years in college and got All American honors my senior year in the 4 by 1 relay. I believe all students have the ability to grow their minds and reach any goal they set their mind to.
Meet Mrs. Long! (Bottom Right)
My name is Mrs. Amanda Long and this is my 8th year teaching 3rd grade. I previously taught 7 years at Otterbein Elementary in Benton County. I grew up just south of St. Louis, MO and earned my Bachelor in biology and Master in elementary education. After college, I moved to Indiana because my husband was completing his PhD at Purdue. We have 2 children, Elijah (4) and Michaela (1). Fun fact about me is that I love to do jigsaw puzzles and word searches when I have free time. My teaching philosophy is to make learning fun in a safe environment so that all students want to come to school instead of feeling like they have to come to school.
