TSC names new Nutrition Services Director
Sue Scott

The Tippecanoe School Corporation is pleased to announce it has hired Ashley Karshen as the new TSC Nutrition Services Director. Karshen replaces Lori Shofroth-Cords who is retiring after 17 years in the position.

Karshen moves into the director’s position after serving as the operations manager for the past year. She joined the TSC in January 2023 as a registered dietitian. She has previous experience as a bake shop owner, teacher and registered dietitian. Karshen has a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University.

As TSC Nutrition Services Director, Karshen will oversee the food service program with around 100 employees who serve breakfast and lunch to students at 19 different schools. She is also responsible for compliance with state and federal nutrition guidelines and maintaining standards for receiving, storing and inventorying food supplies.

"Ashley's time within the TSC as a registered dietitian and operations manager has given her experience in the K-12 space and prepared her to make a natural transition into the director’s position,” says Assistant Superintendent for Personnel Doug Allison. “Additionally, her collaborative leadership style, coupled with a strong work ethic and a passion for ensuring kids have access to healthy and nutritious meals, led to her selection."

“I am a registered dietitian with a passion for helping people improve their health through food,” says Karshen. “We serve about 10,000 meals a day with many students eating two of their three daily meals with us. My goal is to continue to uphold the excellence of the TSC Nutrition Services program that follows the standards of the National School Lunch program.”

The TSC Board of School Trustees ratified Karshen’s contract at the May 8 meeting. She begins in her new position May 15.
