The Tippecanoe School Corporation has named Gina Boyd as the TSC Elementary Teacher of the Year and Melissa Eddy as the TSC Secondary Teacher of the Year.
"We think this is a tremendous opportunity to recognize our outstanding teachers," says TSC Superintendent Dr. Scott Hanback. "These individuals demonstrate a passion for teaching, inspire students and serve as role models among their peers."
Boyd teaches a fourth- and fifth-grade high ability class at Mayflower Mill Elementary School. She has taught for 24 years, 16 of those years with the Tippecanoe School Corporation. Boyd holds a bachelor's degree from Lipscomb University and a gifted and talented license from Purdue University. Mayflower Principal Shannon Cauble says Boyd is recognized by her colleagues for her incredible classroom instruction and innovation. "She is a master of differentiation and personalized instruction. She uses proven research-based strategies to make every minute in her classroom count," says Cauble.
Eddy is in her thirteenth year of teaching, seven of those as an English teacher at Battle Ground Middle School. She holds a bachelor's degree and master's degree from Indiana University.
Battle Ground Middle School Principal Jodi Day says Eddy is one of the most hard-working, dedicated teachers she has had the privilege to work with. "She creates every lesson with the intent to build the capacity of student learning for each of her students, focusing on their individual needs," says Day.
Boyd and Eddy will represent the TSC in the Indiana 2019 Teacher of the Year program. A committee selected Boyd and Eddy from a field of 19 building-level winners.
