Junior Coaches are students in the Forth or Fifth grade that are selected to serve at either Kindergarten, First or Second grade recess. They assist the adults at these recesses. Their job can entail such things as running a kickball game, pushing students on the swing or facilitating a tag game. Junior Coaches are
held to high standards; they must continually exhibit good behavior, keep up with academics and show good leadership at all times. To become a Junior Coach, students first fill out a form that shows their intent to apply to be a Junior Coach the next school year. A parent or guardian has to sign a permission
slip, as well. These students are put through a screening process. When the next school year begins, selected students will fill out a full application. Applications are assessed by the supervisor and the assistant principal. Training begins after the selection process is over and the Junior Coaches begin
working soon after. They will continue to train, learn new games and serve for the rest of the school year.
